It’s coming. At this point it’s only a matter of whether McCain forces Obama to do it before the convention.
What’s that you ask? Well, the Major Speech, of course. We’ve said it before. Obama has one strategy to head off criticism and end examination of his record, positions or history:
Obama's strategy has been to orient the campaign around his greatest strength and advantage -- who could deliver the best speech -- and away from his greatest weakness -- his poor ability to answer questions about how he would deliver on any of its promises.
When Obama’s 20+ year relationship with Trinity Church and the racist, hate-monger Revered Wright blew up in his face, how did Obama respond? With the Major Speech on Race in America.
When questions about Obama’s patriotism were being escalated after flag pins and pledges of allegiance and a wife who for the first time in her adult life was proud of her country, and a long and close relationship with an unrepentant domestic terrorist, how did Obama respond? With the Major Speech on Patriotism, in Indepence, Missouri.
When questions about Obama’s foreign policy experience were elevated from Threat Level: Yellow, Distraction to Threat Level: Orange, Derailment, especially as the news from Iraq increasingly made his judgment regarding the surge come under intense scrutiny, how did Obama respond? With the Sold Out World Victory Tour culminating in the Major Speech on World Citizenry in Berlin.
Now, of course, Obama is taking a beating about the head and neck on a daily basis about being little more than a world-famous celebrity, a pop star out of his depth in the shallowness of his thinking; about being arrogant and presumptuous, about making messianic claims of supernatural powers (not to mention having followers near fainting at signs of his supernatural strength).
How will he respond?
By giving a Major Speech on Humility, of course.
Subtitled, “Why I Am More Humble Than Anyone Else On Earth, And That’s What Makes Me Great”
Oh, and we know exactly where he’ll give it, too.
ORATORICAL NOTE: Obama, please remember that when you pronounce the name of the city, the 'H' is silent.
